Racism is the act of treating people of a particular race differently, especially in a negative way, because of the color of their skin. The poison of this discrimination is not limited to individuals; rather, it has deeply rooted itself in politics, economics, and social relationships.

Today, racism has evolved into a more complex form. In addition to skin color, factors like nationality, social power, and religious identity are also used as bases for discrimination. Across the world, thousands of people have been victims of this injustice, losing their lives, being oppressed, and having their human rights trampled.

We often imagine America as a beacon of progress and the symbol of civilization. But the reality is, this nation’s history is soaked in blood from discrimination and racism. From the days of enslaving African-Americans to today's systemic discriminatory policies, racism continues to loom over American society.

The brutal killing of George Floyd and the 'Black Lives Matter' movement that followed pointed out in clear terms that even today, people are devalued because of their skin color. In the light of such barbaric incidents, it is difficult to truly call America a 'civilized nation'.

In stark contrast, the Islamic perspective shines as a beacon of light. Islam teaches that a person's honor is based on their character and piety — not their skin color, lineage, or ethnic identity.

In the Holy Qur'an, Allah Almighty says —

"And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed, in that are signs for those of knowledge."
(Surah Ar-Rum, Verse 30:22)

The Historic Sermon of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): The Final Declaration Against Racism

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) announced in his Farewell Sermon with utmost clarity —

"O people! Verily, your Lord is One and your father is one. Verily, there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, nor of a non-Arab over an Arab; neither a white man over a black man, nor a black man over a white man — except by piety (taqwa)."
(Musnad Ahmad - 23489)

This clear declaration of Islam completely rejects racism, ethnic arrogance, and sectarianism.
