Why Practicing Muslims Like Aunty Hold the Truth We’re Too "Modern" to See

We think we know better than Aunty. We grew up with science, logic, internet, podcasts, influencers—while she wears simplicity, prays five times a day, and speaks about Allah as if He’s still relevant in this modern world.

But here’s what we forget: Aunty knows something we’ve unlearned. While we chase freedom, she holds onto meaning. While we question everything, she’s already found the answer. She doesn’t just talk about Islam—she lives it. She practices, not to be perfect, but to stay grounded in a world that’s constantly losing itself.

And that’s why she tells us to be practicing Muslims. Not because she wants to impose, but because she knows where the path without Islam leads—emptiness dressed as freedom.

So before we dismiss her as outdated, we should ask ourselves: If we’re so wise, why are we so lost? Maybe the one who quietly prays in the corner of the room understands life better than those who only speak of “finding themselves.”
